Omega 3 fatty acids exist in more than one form. The fatty acids found in fish, or the famous fish oil, are called docosahexaenoic (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic (EPA) acids. Another Omega 3 fatty acids picture form found in vegetable oils, flaxseeds, walnuts, and dark leafy greens is known as alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). Our body is able to convert a small amount of ALA into DHA and EPA.

What Are Omega 3 Fatty Acids Needed For?

Omega 3 fatty acids are important for good brain activity and also prevent the development of heart and vascular diseases. They help the heart in many ways. Omega 3 does not allow inflammatory processes to develop in blood vessels, just like in the whole body. In large quantities, they are even able to slightly stabilize the irregular heart rate. They also reduce the level of triglycerides in the body, lower blood pressure, and slow down clotting in blood vessels. It is not in vain that they are recommended for consumption to those people who suffer from the heart disorder and have had a heart attack. Studies have shown that their intake significantly reduces the likelihood of a second attack in the near future.

Omega 3 is also believed to be helpful for depression and brain disorder. They improve the brain cognitive activity by stimulating memory and other mental functions.
