Facial masks also differ by their form of release: cream masks, scrub masks, film masks, sheet masks, hydrogel masks, and gel masks.

Depending on the type of a mask, you can determine the speed of its action: disposable sheet masks are designed for quick results, while alginate masks provide a more powerful rejuvenating effect but require longer use. Natural, gel, and cream facial masks sold in bigger volumes allow you to complete a full skincare course (approximately 5–10 days). It can be compared with the procedures at the beautician.

    How to use facial masks

Regardless of the type, form of release, and action, it is necessary to clean the face from make-up and dirt before the cosmetic procedure with a facial mask.

    • Cream-like masks are applied on the skin avoiding the area around the eyes. Carefully removed with a wet cotton pad and washed off with water.
    • Sheet masks are placed on the face according to the slits for the eyes and mouth. After using the mask, the remaining substance can be removed with a tissue or left until full absorption; however, in this case, you should pay attention to the recommendations by the manufacturer.
    • Alginate masks consist of fine powder made of seaweed. The content should be mixed with an activator or water in the proportion indicated by the manufacturer. These masks need to be removed from the top edge to the bottom.

It is recommended to apply all masks, except for the sheet ones, using a special spatula or brush. The tool needs to be thoroughly washed after use so as not to create favorable conditions for bacteria and avoid it contacting the skin during the next skincare procedure.

The procedure takes about 10–15 minutes, but it is generalized data; therefore, you need to read the indications for use before applying a facial mask.

After using certain types of masks, it is worth treating your skin with a toner or applying the cream. It is better to apply a mask when relaxed in a lying position.
