    Expanders and their benefits

    What are the benefits and disadvantages of sports expanders? Let’s first have a look at their benefits:

    • expanders are completely safe; therefore, the risk of injuries is minimal;
    • suitable for people at different fitness levels due to adjustable resistant levels;
    • don’t take up much space and don’t require any specific skills;
    • easily transportable, allowing you to exercise anywhere;
    • develop resistance and strength and help provide training load for any muscle group;
    • help recover after injuries;
    • strengthen muscular corset of the back and chest;
    • protect your spine from overload;
    • suitable for weight loss – allow you to burn more calories and increase metabolism, which leads to decreased fat deposits

    Sports expanders are suitable for those who prefer training at home over gym sessions. These bands are light-weighted, small, and easy to use.

    Expanders and their types

    • ribbon bands – this is a well-known fitness resistance band, which can look like a simple ribbon-like band made of latex or fabric;
    • wrist bands – suitable for training forearms and wrists, usually used to recover muscles after injuries or strokes;
    • shoulder (chest) bands – suitable for training chest and shoulder girdle muscles; two handles are usually connected by strings or bands;
    • butterfly expander – for legs and glutes, also suitable for post-partum recovery;
    • figure 8 bands - for leg workouts;
    • loop bands – this is a kind of ribbon band in a shape of a long latex loop. This expander is perfect for intense strength workouts and quick development of speed and strength.

    How to choose an expander for home workouts

    How to choose an expander? Similar to fitness resistance bands, which we discussed earlier, an expander resistance level is represented by its color. You can pick the necessary level of resistance and strength by choosing a particular color.

    Therefore, when choosing an expander, you should consider the following characteristics: color, strength, and resistance (or load). If you are a beginner, you should start with the lowest resistance category. Manufacturers often produce expanders in sets of 4 or 5 pieces, with different resistance levels from the lowest to the highest.

    By the way, the length of an expander is just as important as its strength. It will not only ensure comfortable workouts but will also help to perform more exercises.
