    The former consciously invest time and effort into protecting their skin from ultraviolet radiation, and the latter don't realise the need to protect their skin from sun damage.

    What is SPF cream, and why do you need sun protection?

    Sunscreen (SPF cream) protects the skin from harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays emitted by the sun. It is important to know why we should use sunscreen and the dangers of being in the sun without it.

    The acronym SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. It measures special substances that absorb UV radiation, thus protecting the skin. Why is the sun dangerous for the skin? Simply put, exposure to UV radiation causes the skin to age much faster. This results in what every woman fears so much – the signs of skin ageing, such as:

    • wrinkles;
    • increased pigmentation and, as a result, uneven skin colour;
    • dryness and loss of elasticity.

    It is also important to note that applying sunscreen helps reduce the risk of developing skin cancers such as basal and squamous cell carcinoma.

    It is best to use sunscreen with the appropriate SPF for your skin type and sun exposure conditions. Regular use of sunscreen helps keep your skin healthy and reduces the negative effects of UV rays.

    Why are UV rays harmful to our skin, and why is sun protection so important? Sun protection picture

    There are three types of UV rays, based on their wavelength and harmfulness to our skin:

    • UVA rays penetrate deep into the skin, causing photoaging, wrinkles and dryness. They are active at any time of the year and can go through clouds and glass.
    • UVB rays make you tan and can cause sunburn. They are most active in the spring and summer and become dangerous at certain times of the day.
    • UVC rays don’t reach the Earth's surface thanks to the ozone layer, which is good news for health.

    Protecting your skin from UV rays is important for maintaining beauty and health, even if the negative effects of UV exposure become visible only after ten years. This is why SPF products are an integral part of skincare.

    How to protect your skin from premature ageing with an SPF cream?

    SPF cream is a crucial element in protecting your skin from premature ageing. Here are some key steps:

    • Use sunscreen daily: UV rays can penetrate clouds and damage your skin even on cloudy days. Apply sunscreen to your face, neck, and other exposed areas daily, even if you don't plan to spend much time in the sun.
    • Use adequate SPF: Choose a sunscreen with an SPF appropriate for your skin type and sun exposure conditions. It is generally recommended to use SPF 30 or higher for sufficient protection.
    • Apply evenly: Distributing sunscreen evenly on the skin will provide better protection. Remember to cover sensitive areas such as the ears, lips, and the back of the neck.
    • Reapply: If you spend a lot of time in the sun, reapply sunscreen periodically, especially after swimming or sweating.
    • Protect your eyes and head: It is also important to wear UV-blocking sunglasses and a hat to protect your scalp and eyes.
    • Avoid sunlight during peak hours: Try to avoid prolonged sun exposure between 10 am and 4 pm, when UV rays are most intense and dangerous.

    Sunscreen significantly reduces the risk of premature skin ageing, sunburn, and other adverse effects caused by the sun.
