    Slippery elm and its benefits:

How to use slippery elm (also known as red elm)? It contains mucilage, a substance that becomes a slick gel when mixed with water.

This gel coats and soothes the mouth, throat, and gastrointestinal tract. It’s a perfect remedy for sore throat, cough, gastroesophageal reflux disease, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), diverticulitis, and diarrhea.

Research has shown that, apart from mucilage, slippery elm contains antioxidants and antibacterial agents, making it a perfect remedy for wounds, burns, psoriasis, and other skin damage caused by inflammation.

According to scientists, being rich in antioxidants, the bark of this tree can fight such inflammatory bowel diseases as ulcerative colitis.
