The sugar substitute called erythritol was created in order to reduce the likelihood of developing such terrible pathologies as diabetes, stroke, and oncology. After its appearance on the market, Erythritol caused a lot of rumors, misinterpretations, and speculation.
Read more...This sweetener is produced by fermentation of natural sugars extracted in certain fruits. Most often it is obtained from corn cobs, pears, and watermelons. The sweetener differs in that it comes from sugar alcohols, which do not cause a surge of insulin in the human body and are harmless in diabetes.
The composition of the product does not provoke the development of caries on the teeth. After the erythritol passes through the digestive tract and bloodstream, it is excreted from the body in the urine almost unchanged. The main advantage for athletes is that it can be used with strict diets, which is facilitated by the nutritional value and proteins (0), fats (0), and carbohydrates (0.2).
A large dose of the substitute (over 50g) can cause stomach rumbling or nausea. If you give more than 20 g to children, the supplement can provoke diarrhea. The optimal dosage is 0.73 g per kg of body weight. The drug is not recommended during pregnancy. Also, contraindications include the period of breastfeeding and the presence of allergies.
