Arjuna (also known as the Arjuna tree and Terminalia arjuna) is a medicinal plant that is mainly used to treat heart conditions due to its cardioprotective and cardio-strengthening properties. It strengthens the heart muscle and normalizes (primarily reduces) the heart rate. Besides, it is a rich source of minerals that help prevent the loss of bone mass (osteoporosis) and improve the mineral density of bones. Arjuna is recommended for the treatment of ulcers. It can stop bleeding and, therefore, can be useful to treat blood clotting disorders.

The bark of Terminalia arjuna has a cardioprotective effect, restoring depleted endogenous myocardial antioxidants and improving myocardial function. According to Ayurveda, the bark of Arjuna strengthens the heart and myocardium (the heart muscles), improves blood circulation in the heart tissues and increases its ability to pump blood. Several studies support these facts.
Bark extracts possess antioxidant, antiseptic, hypotensive, and antihypertrophic properties that fight the general symptoms and causes of a variety of cardiovascular diseases. Some clinical studies have indicated health improvements in people with coronary heart disease, high blood pressure and heart failure.
Arjuna bark is mainly used in Ayurveda to treat heart conditions and as a heart-toning remedy. Additionally, it is also recommended for the treatment of other conditions. Arjuna is currently being studied as a remedy for ulcers and diabetes.
As a rule, the recommended dosage is 500mg of standardized dry extract two to three times a day for up to three months.
