Taurine in high concentration and in free form is found in human tissues, in particular in the skeletal muscles, brain, and spinal cord, heart, retina, and kidneys. It's an important element of the synthesis of a large number of amino acids.
Taurine helps the athlete's body to relieve muscle tension and stress caused by training. It also improves the contractility of skeletal muscles and increases performance, increases the intensity of the training session, and reduces fatigue.

Taurine is an amino acid that was first isolated in 1827 from the bile of a bull, which, in fact, explains its name (Taurus means "bull" in Latin). Taurine is considered to be one of the sulphur amino acids. In the human body, it's synthesized from the sulfur-containing amino acid called cysteine.
Unlike other amino acids, which are processed and used by the body as a building material, taurine continues to stay in tissues in free form. High concentrations of this amino acid can be found in the heart muscle, skeletal muscle, brain, and spinal cord, kidneys, as well as in the retina of the eye.
This amino acid takes an active part in the synthesis of a large number of other amino acids. At the same time, it's an important component of the metabolic processes of potassium, calcium, magnesium, and sodium.
In the brain, taurine plays the role of a neurotransmitter (a transmitter of nerve impulses). It also has a cardiotropic effect, i.e. it accelerates blood supply to the heart muscles and metabolism in it, as well as improves energy and recovery processes.
As a sulfur amino acid, taurine restores the function of cell membranes and improves the metabolic processes in the body.
It was also noted that often when taking taurine, there is an improvement in concentration, memory, increased thought processes, reduced aggression, and irritability. In addition, this amino acid is considered an ideal tool for improving performance during aerobic exercise.
