BioBank Co. Ltd. was founded by the world-famous microbiologist Iichiroh Ohhira from Japan. Ohhira spent most of his life researching the effects of lactic acid bacteria on the body. On the day when he realized their importance, he began to create drugs based on them.
Iichiroh Ohhira was born in 1936 in Osaka. It is the third-largest city in Japan. After high school, he enrolled at Okayama University in the Department of Agriculture. There, he received a master's degree. After graduating in 1960, Iichiroh Ohhira worked as a landscape architect for a whole. During the period when he was working as a landscape architect, he accidentally learned about the effects of lactic acid bacteria on the body, and it changed his life.
Iichiroh Ohhira once participated in a major landscape project in Malaysia. At one of the official receptions, he tried a Malaysian strong alcoholic drink. Immediately after drinking it, he did not feel well. One of the participants of the official reception saw that Dr. Ohhira was unwell and offered to relieve his suffering by offering him a "magic elixir." The liquid resembled juice and quickly removed the discomfort in the stomach. The entire course of actions really amused and interested Ohhira. He wanted to know what this wonderful drink was made of.
When Iichiroh Ohhira returned to his homeland, he began to explore the unknown liquid, which he tried in Malaysia. In order to understand the magical properties of the "magic drink" on a professional level, he entered the graduate school of agriculture at Okayama University in 1971. In 1973, he received a master's degree in agriculture and microbiology.
While studying the properties of the Malaysian drink, the scientist found out that it is made from fermented foods and includes various types of lactic acid bacteria. Ohhira began researching the different types of fermented foods produced in Southeast Asia and found that they all contained different microorganisms. In addition, he unraveled the secret of the beneficial effects of lactic acid bacteria. The secret was hidden in the long-term natural fermentation, when strong bacteria become even stronger, and weak ones die.
In 1974, Iichiroh Ohhira founded the Bioactivity Research and Development Center. In 1986, he studied under Professor Toshitaka Nakae, who was the most well-known person in the field of lactic acid bacteria research, at the Faculty of Agriculture of his university. Just a year later entered the School of Natural Sciences and Technology at the university.
Dr. Ohhira worked with scientists at Okayama University for more than a decade to understand the subtleties of the action of lactic acid bacteria. When all the secrets were discovered, Dr. Ohhira began to develop a new product formula, which included the ingredients of the "magic elixir." Thus, the scientist gave people the opportunity to feel the special effect of the drink, which he experienced many years ago. The composition of this drink is now known in the world as Dr. Ohhira® OM-X probiotics (Ohhira's Mountain Extract).
Dr. Ohhira undertook additional research to study the effects of lactic acid bacteria in more detail. In 1992, he joined the Microbiology Laboratory at Kagawa Medical College mainly for toxins research. A year later, he headed the office of a technical consultant on agriculture and environmental issues in the capital of the Chinese province of Sichuan in Chengdu.
Iichiroh Ohhira studied not only study at Japanese universities. In 1999, he received his Ph. D. in Public Health from the American Adam Smith University.
Since 2000, he has continued to do additional research in the field of lactic acid bacteria at the Japanese University of Azabu. Here he received the degree of Doctor of Veterinary Sciences.
Works and regalia of Dr. Iichiroh Ohhira
Dr. Iichiroh Ohhira has authored or co-authored more than twenty scientific papers on the effects of lactic acid bacteria. Here are the key fields of his work:
Dr. Ohhira became a world-renowned microbiologist. He is an honorary member of various organizations, such as:
In 2004, the scientist was awarded the Gusi Peace Prize. It is the Asian equivalent of the Nobel Prize that is awarded to people who have made a great contribution to the establishment of peace, the protection of human rights, as well as for significant achievements in science and art.
Dr. Iichiroh Ohhira suddenly died on March 1, 2016. Until his death, he lectured at universities in Japan, Korea, and Malaysia, and consulted with various government agencies in China.
At the moment, the scientific work on the study of the benefits of lactic acid bacteria for the body is continued by the successor of Iichiroh Ohhira, Doctor of Microbiological Sciences Muneaki Takahata. He is also developing new products based on the formula discovered by Dr. Ohhira.
The Biobank Co. Ltd. Company
Iichiroh Ohhira founded the BioBank Company in 1974 in Honshu, Okayama Prefecture, Japan. The company develops and manufactures health and beauty products based on probiotic cultures. The BioBank Company also develops natural products for agriculture based on the same lactic acid bacteria (Dr. Ohhira's Formula).
The main mission of the company is to develop products for maintaining good health and longevity.
