    AllNutrition Green line dried cranberries

DRIED CRANBERRIES are mainly known for their ability to reduce the growth of bacteria and their effectiveness in preventing urinary tract and bladder infections. It has been proved that the compounds present in cranberries may not only protect against the development of cystitis, but also support the treatment of this troublesome ailment. But it is worth bearing in mind that cranberries also have other properties. Cranberries contain vitamins such as B1, B2, B6, C, E, carotene, as well as minerals: sodium, potassium, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, iodine and iron, and flavonoids, which are powerful antioxidants.

Cranberries are also a rich source of fibre, so can be helpful to those suffering from constipation. Cranberries protect against atherosclerosis. Scientific research indicates that polyphenols present in cranberry fruit help protect plasma lipoproteins, neutralising the effect of free radicals on lipids. The lesser susceptibility of lipoproteins to oxidation means a lower risk of developing atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. In addition, bioactive compounds present in cranberries also help lower “bad cholesterol”, i.e. low-density lipoproteins, LDL, which can also have a beneficial effect on the cardiovascular system; they also act as anti-aggregants, reducing the risk of blockages in the lumen of blood vessels. Cranberries protect the digestive system The substances found in cranberries hinder the multiplication of Helicobacter pylori – the bacteria that cause type B gastric ulcers. Regular consumption of cranberries may not only be serve as prevention, but also a supportive treatment of this ailment. Cranberries also prove to be lethal to many other pathogenic microbes, helping combat food poisoning and accompanying diarrhoea. As in the case of the bladder, the preventive and curative properties of this berry are related to its ability to block the adhesion of various bacteria to the cells of the digestive tract.

Cranberries reduce the risk of cancer The unique substances found in cranberry fruit probably also have chemopreventive properties. There are indications that these compounds protect against lung and breast cancers, as well as selected forms of leukaemia and cancers of the lower gastrointestinal tract (specifically, colon cancer). These relationships have so far only been observed in studies conducted on cell cultures, but the results are quite promising and encouraging.
