Whey protein is a substance that is quickly digested by the body so that amino acids are quickly supplied in large quantities to the muscles for the synthesis of new muscle mass. Moreover, whey protein has pronounced immune properties.

Eggs, soy, cottage cheese, and other dairy products also contain a large amount of protein, but none of these protein sources can compare with whey protein in both quality and degree of digestibility and biological value. It's important to note that whey protein contains the maximum amount of BCAA amino acids, which are simply necessary for the synthesis of new muscle tissues and for its preservation.

Methods for obtaining whey protein Whey protein picture

There are several technologies for isolating whey protein from the whey. These include the ion exchange method, micro-filtration method, and cross-filtration method. The most optimal technology for isolating whey protein is considered to be cross-filtration, which removes fat and lactose from the final product, and preserves all bioactive peptides.

Which whey protein is better to buy?

In the sports nutrition market, two types are most widely distributed: whey protein concentrate and whey protein isolate.

    • Whey protein concentrate is not the purest protein product (with protein content from 40% to 80%). The concentrate is produced using the simplest technology and when the protein is extracted from the whey, it often contains lactose and fat. It's caused by the simplicity of production. As a result, this product has the lowest price.
    • Whey protein isolate is a cleaner protein powder with a protein concentration of 90-95%. Protein isolate is almost free of fat and lactose. But also because of the more complex production technology, the price of the isolate is higher than the usual concentrate.

    Which whey protein is better?

Of course, the one in which the protein content is maximum and which has no lactose and unnecessary fat. If you can't decide which protein to buy, always choose whey isolate.

Due to the high concentration of protein, whey protein can be perfectly suitable in the following cases:

    • in cases of intensive training, the goal of which is to gain muscle mass and increase strength
    • when one needs to reduce the amount of fat in the body (so-called "drying", when people are focused on the protein isolate, which does not contain any carbohydrates or fat) and achieve the relief of the muscles
    • when it's necessary to balance nutrition in cases of dystrophy or protein deficiency
