Description

Phytosterols (phytostearins, phytosteroids) are fat-soluble chemical compounds contained exclusively in plants and belonging to the group of steroid alcohols. According to their physiological purpose, they are analogue of cholesterol in plants. Phytosterols are an important source of energy and the basis for cell composition, as well as necessary for the synthesis of hormones and vitamins.

Consumed with food, phytosterols replace cholesterol, weaken its production in the liver and absorption in the small intestine, regulate the balance between the "good" and "bad" fraction of it, thereby preventing plaque deposition in blood vessels and the development of atherosclerosis.
