Oregano oil is a disinfectant, anti-inflammatory, diuretic, as well as antiseptic. It regulates the functioning of the digestive system and helps in treatment of stomach diseases. It increases the secretion of gastric juice and helps to normalize bowel function. Oregano is also used to alleviate bloating and food poisoning. The beneficial properties of oregano are due to its unique composition. It contains essential oil (which includes antimicrobial phenols – thymol and carvacrol), flavonoids, organic acids, macro- and microelements, vitamins C, B1, B2, D, A, and K, and other biologically active substances. The use of oregano as a general tonic is indicated for people with weakened immunity, acute respiratory diseases, and chronic upper respiratory tract infections.
