Evening primrose oil is a food additive produced from the evening primrose - a light yellow flowering plant that opens at dusk and this is where it got its name from. People began to use it long before the establishment of the United States, since the time of Native Americans residing in the territory. This field flower grew throughout North America and Europe and was used to treat a variety of diseases - from nelly-ache to hemorrhoid.

Nowadays it is known that the healing properties of evening primrose are related to a large amount of gamma-linolenic acid - an essential fatty acid (EFA), it contains. Despite the fact that the fats that we consume as food can later be converted into EFA, no other food product contains such a large amount of this acid. That’s why, evening primrose oil is so beneficial.

It is used to reduce the likelihood of developing cardiovascular disease by lowering cholesterol level and reducing the risk of blood clot formation (reducing thrombocyte aggregation). Moreover, the oil is used to alleviate symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), reduce chest pain, symptoms of cystic disease of the breast and skin diseases (eczema).

Each capsule contains 1000 mg of evening primrose oil. Evening primrose oil contains essential fatty acids (EFA), including gamma-linoleic acid (GLA), which can’t be produced by the body itself. Many women take evening primrose oil as a source of GLA. It turned out to help maintain a healthy hormonal balance and have a beneficial effect on the skin.
