Chitosan is a polysaccharide (a type of insoluble fiber), a derivative of chitin, which is obtained from the shells of shrimp, lobsters and crabs and sometimes from algae. Chitin does not contain calories. Chitosan is often considered a fat-burning product because it is believed that this substance is able to block the absorption of fats and thereby helps to get rid of excess fat deposits.

Chitosan binds fat molecules in the GI tract, reducing their absorption and promoting their excretion from the body. From a chemical point of view, such a dietary supplement should be a really efficient way to lose weight that does not require you to change your diet and lifestyle. The use of chitosan as a dietary supplement leads to a decrease in lipids and cholesterol in the blood, since, being in the intestine, it envelops fats and takes them away, not allowing the body to absorb them.
