The amino acid L-carnitine is produced in the body, the amino acids lysine and methionine. It is mainly produced by the liver and kidneys and must be transported to other body tissues. It is most commonly found in tissues that use fatty acids as the main fuel, such as skeletal and cardiac muscle.
